Description

Celebrate Black Birders Week 2023 (May 28-June 3) with NYC Audubon! Black Birders Week was created in 2020 by the BlackAFinSTEM Collective. Read more about the week and each day's theme on the BAFiS website.

Join Randall’s Island Park Alliance, Feminist Bird Club, and NYC Audubon in celebrating and amplifying Black birders and Black joy at our Community BBQ! Our songs, stories, and voices will sing out like the birds in the trees and skies above. Food will be available to purchase, but you can bring your own BBQ treats as well. The New Amsterdam Music Association will be present and complementing the sounds of nature with live jazz music in the Park. This event will also be joined by Bobby Horvath and live birds of prey from Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation (WINNOR). Bring a blanket to lay out on the grass and join the celebration! Tables are limited: elders and those with physical needs will have priority.

This event will take place at the 103rd Street Footbridge Picnic Area. Registration is required. No limit. Free.

This event follows a birding tour lead by Akilah Lewis of the Feminist Bird Club and Efua Peterson of NYC Audubon from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. To learn more about that event, click here.
